Saipem Canada Inc. Awarded New EPC Contract in Horizon Project

CALGARY - September 21, 2011
Saipem Canada Inc. has been awarded a new onshore contract worth approximately $500 million.
Saipem Canada Inc., through which Saipem operates in Canada, has been awarded a new EPC Lump Sum contract by Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (Canadian Natural). The project consists of the engineering, procurement and construction of a Secondary Upgrader with a production capacity of 42,599 BPSD (barrels per stream day) of Hydrotreated Gas Oil, as part of the Horizon Oil Sands Project - Hydrotreater Phase 2 - in the Athabasca region of Alberta, Canada.

Saipem Canada Inc. wins Sunrise deal

CALGARY - December 4, 2010
Saipem SpA, Europe's largest oilfield service provider, has won a $1 billion oilsands contract for the Sunrise Energy Project.
The contract is for the engineering, procurement and construction of two plants that will produce a total of 60,000 barrels per day of bitumen, Milan based Saipem said Friday in a statement.
Saipem operates in Calgary through Saipem Canada Inc., which has been recruiting in Canada from its Calgary base. Saipem is 43 per cent owned by Italy's Eni SpA, Europe's fifth-biggest integrated oil and gas firm by market value.

CO2 Slurry Pipeline Project

A slurry pipeline uses flowing liquid (typically water) to carry entrained solids in a pipeline. The CO2 Slurry Pipeline Project proposes using CO2 instead of water. CO2 at pressure in a pipeline flows as a liquid and is a more efficient carrier fluid than water because it:
- Is less abrasive than water (pipelines can last two to three times longer);
- Can carry a greater volume of material than water; and
- Is cheaper to de-slurry (solids are delivered dry rather than wet).
